In the Spotlight - mark 2
After the Times Article appeared, I was approached by someone from Jeremy Vine’s Radio 2 show asking me to come on and talk to Jeremy about what had happened in 2008.
William, teh guy who phoned me, was really nice. But I have never done live media before - I have just prepared others for it. And much of my experience was defensive briefings for Ministers appearing on TV or radio. So I reverted to type and prepared myself a negative press briefing pack - covering all the questions designed to catch me out.
At the studio, Jeremy was the loveliest, kindest man and the interview was a really friendly chat. I shouldn't have worried in teh slightest. To the point that I walked out of the studio and wondered whether that was it… Fortunately I didn’t look up Jeremy’s viewing figures until the next day - or I would have hidden a long way away from the studio (7 million listeners in case you were interested).
I got to talk about the route back from the lowest point in my life. And hopefully offered some hope to anyone else who was feeling like they had lost their value or their worth. And a little about what I am trying to do here with NewDay.
For the next couple of weeks, you can listen to me at this link (from about 35 minutes): https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m002s8fl
